Well, I have to say that my family and I have been having an amazing summer so far. I hope that you are, too!
Anyway, this week I would like to tell you about a place we recently visited, and then I would like to tell how I learned that you never really know what you can do, until you try!
First though, our little trip; this past week we had a great time visiting a friend who lives in a small community called Woods Creek. What makes this place unique, is the view from his back yard. I know that many people enjoy waking up in the morning, sitting on their deck, and having a cup of coffee first in the morning. But, what if your deck happened to rest upon the shores of Lake Manitoba?
A picture really does say a thousand words doesn’t it? But at the same time, the view we had was far more beautiful than even this picture reveals.
We were also treated to some very amazing sunrises!
Additionally, our children and I enjoyed doing some boating on the lake ….
and my wife enjoyed doing a little fishing.
This brings us to the life lesson that I wrote about earlier: how you never really know what you can do until you try. My family and I are vegetarians, so fishing is definitely not an activity we would do on a regular basis. The truth is that this was our first time ever fishing! As you can see, though, my wife really enjoyed casting! As we were getting ready to leave the cabin my wife decided to try three more casts, just to practice, never expecting she would catch anything. Well, on her second cast, she did catch what my friend called a “fair sized” jack fish!
As I said earlier, my family and I are vegetarians so this was one lucky fish! It turned out to be a catch and release situation!
As we made the 4 hour trip back to Winnipeg, we reflected on what a beautiful place Manitoba is. We also thought about the lesson we learned that day; you never know what you can do until you try. My wife never dreamed she would catch a fish on just her second cast- with little previous experience! It made me think about our country, and particularly our province. How different would our nation be if so many people, over so many years didn’t have the mental fortitude to burst past limitations and try new things, such as moving to a new, far- away land?
So remember, don’t be afraid to try new things or to dream big! Whether your goal is to move to a new country, start a business or learn a new language, you never know what you can do until you try!
See you next time!
